Cart vs Saddle
Snowy River Pony Parties is happy to be able to provide either saddled ponies or ponies hooked up to a cart to enhance your party or event. There are pros and cons of either choice and a few are outlined below.
Cart rides, we hitch the ponies up to a two wheeled cart so that the pony can pull riders in the cart. Multiple children are able to ride in the cart at the same time as well as the ponies are able to pull adults. This is perfect for parties of all shapes and sizes as the ponies are able to pull between 500-1000lbs, depending on each individual pony (this can vary for each pony dependent on their fitness level, which changes throughout the year). Cart rides require a larger area and we will typically walk on the road or a big open area of lawn.
Saddle rides mean that the children get to ride on the pony while the pony is being led by the handler. These can be done in smaller backyards so, would be ideal for those with very limited space. The saddle rides do have size limits and can only accommodate children who are under three feet tall and weigh less than 50 lbs. The ponies can only accommodate one child at a time - no multiple riders - and we do require a responsible adult to walk with and hold the children at all times when on the pony (this adult is not provided).
Whether using the cart or saddle, we do require the attention of children in and around the area the ponies are in for the safety of the children and the pony alike because items thrown or kicked around the ponies will often hit the pony and that is not fair to them. We also ask that other pets be put away, as not all other pets are pony friendly.
